An Important Update to HEDIS CAHPS Clients
In a recent email to survey vendors, NCQA announced that they are retiring the Aspirin Use and Discussion (ASP) measure from the HEDIS CAHPS® Survey. The survey will still contain the ASP measure questions this year; however, since NCQA will not collect member responses or return calculated results for this measure, SPH Analytics will omit the ASP measure from our 2017 HEDIS CAHPS reporting.
Based on NCQA’s update to survey vendors, we will not report the ASP measure because it no longer aligns with the updated recommendations from the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF).

NCQA is retiring the Aspirin Use and Discussion (ASP) measure due to misalignment with updated recommendations from the United States Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF).
Because this change was made after the release of the HEDIS Volume 3: 2017 Specifications for Survey Measures, the Aspirin Use and Discussion questions were included in the 2017 Adult surveys and 2017 CAHPS Member Level Data File Layouts. NCQA has told survey vendors that they should field their surveys with the aspirin questions. It is too late to revise surveys at this late date. NCQA will not collect member responses for aspirin and will not return calculated results for Aspirin Use and Discussing Aspirin Risks and Benefits.
